Looking for online betting in America? Check out these legal states for your next bet!
If you are new to the online betting world in America, you might have thought that every single state was legal – but unfortunately, you are wrong! Even though online betting is legal in around 15 states in the country, some only have in-person betting options that reduce the functionality and ease of use of online betting on games and sporting events.
Since 2018 when the Supreme Court ruled out a federal mandate on sports betting, the decision has now been up to individual states two devices whether or not they are allowing online betting. So how do you know which state is legal in which states are not?
As of right now, five states are legal when it comes to taking bets in physical sportsbooks, along with one that has online betting pending. Furthermore, two states have full mobile betting with various options, whereas two have in-person online betting options available to their residents. Four additional states have a limited mobile betting option, whereas the rest of the states have nothing available to their residents.
Arkansas
Arkansas is one of the states where online betting in America is not legal, but they even have physical sportsbooks. You can bet in person, but you can not bet online.
Colorado
Colorado has full mobile betting with various options available to residents in the state. After introducing digital betting, it has since turned into one of the hot spots for betters across the state. The most popular online websites used for online betting America here in Colorado include BetRivers and Draftkings, being fan favorites for placing bets on sports games.
Delaware
Delaware does not have online betting but offers physical sportsbooks. The sports betting market prohibits online betting, but there is a probability that it can change soon with this state.
Illinois
This state offers full mobile betting, with an in-person registration required to begin betting online. This is one of the United States’ most popular betting states, despite having a state that has very high fees and taxes for those who partake in online betting.
Indiana
Indiana is similar to Illinois in that it offers full mobile betting with various online options for residents. This state had its first online bet in September of 2019 and has not looked back since. The most popular sites here for online betting include DraftKings and FanDuel, with thousands of users betting on the infamous Indiana sporting games and national football league matches.
Iowa
Iowa is similar to Indiana, in that it offers full mobile betting and has very cheap licensing fees! Even though the state here has a smaller population than other states in which online betting thrives – such as Colorado – it still has a very high betting population per capita.
Michigan
Michigan also has full mobile betting with various online options on different websites, holding one of the largest online gaming markets in the entire United States.
Mississippi
Mississippi has mobile wagering – but it only lets you put money down on a sporting event while you are physically inside of a casino to place the bet in person. Since you have to travel to a casino to place a bet, this limits the functionality of the betting here, but it is still one of the only Southern states to have legalized sports betting.
Montana
Montana is similar to the rule of Mississippi, where you have to bet in person but can place an online wager. With the lack of versatility and flexibility when it comes to betting, the market here is low compared to other states.
Nevada
This state has full mobile betting – but you still have to venture into a casino to register before you can begin placing your bets online. Although this one-time registration can hurt the sign-ups since it takes time and effort to get to a casino, it still lets you use online betting in America after you sign up for the initial time.
New Hampshire
This state offers only the DraftKings mobile betting option that lets you partake in sports betting – even though it is only one option, the mobile-friendly nature is a smart option.
New Jersey
Jersey has a full mobile betting option, becoming the third state in the entire country to be able to provide a user-friendly system that uses legal bets.
Pennsylvania
This state is one of the only states that have a full movie betting choice with multiple online options to choose from. It was one of only a few states to accept sports betting a few years ago and has one of the best services in the entire country after going fully digital in 2019.
Conclusion
As you can see, there are various steaks with different rules regarding online betting in America! Some have only in-person physical sportsbooks, whereas others have mobile betting and multiple online betting options!
